Painted in 2004 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the D-day landings in Normandy, France. The Normandy beach landings in June, 1944 marked the start of the long awaited liberation of occupied France. However, prior to the landings, aerial bombardments to immobilise enemy strongholds brought much loss of life and the destruction of many towns in the region.
